Montecillo Gran Reserva-vinene lagres på topp håndlagde franske eikefat, og eiken er nøye utvalgt av vinmakerne selv.
Vinkjelleren hos Bodegas Montecillo er ventilert ved naturlig kjøling fra kilde, uten kunstig temperaturkontroll, og spesielt utformet for langsom modning av vinene. Dette forsterker vinens fruktkarakter og bevarer vinens egenverdi og kompleksitet gjennom hele modningsprosessen.

Rioja var den første spanske regionene som oppnådde D.O.Ca. appellasjon, den høyeste vinappellasjonen i Spania i følge den europeiske vinloven. Rioja ligger nord i Spania, og dalen er beskyttet av fjell mot kalde vinder fra nord samt at Atlanterhavet og Middelhavet sørger for milde temperaturer og samtidig nok nedbør hele året. Jordsmonnet er hovedsakelig kalkholdig leire. Rioja er den mest anerkjente vinregionen i Spania.

Two Bodegas Montecillo wines received Gold Medals at the XIV International Wine Competition Bacchus organized by the Spanish Unionof Tasters.
These awards come only two months after the prestigious Wine Spectator magazine rated the 2010 vintage of Montecillo Reservaas “outstanding” with 90 points (on a 100-pointscale).
During the competition, held between the 18th and 21st of March in Madrid, ajudging panel comprising of 65 national and international Masters of Wine, Master Sommeliers, winemakers,media and trade wine specialists evaluated and scored over 1500 wines from 18 different countries.
The blind tasting evaluation resulted in both Montecillo wines being awarded the contest´s second highest accolade, adding two more medals to Bodegas Montecillo´s awardtally,currently in excess of 200.
Mercedes crafts Reserva and Gran Reserva wines with carefully selected Tempranillo grapes from the Rioja Alta. Montecillo Reserva 2010 was aged for 24 months in handcrafted American and French oak casks and a further 16 months in the bottle before release. Montecillo Reserva Special Selection 1994 was crafted from what was recognized as a “mythical”vintage in Rioja.

Only a couple of months after receiving a Gold Medal at the XIV International Wine Competition Bacchus organized by the Spanish Union of Tasters and being recongnized by Wine Spectator magazine as “outstanding” with 90 points, Bodegas Montecillo’s Montecillo Reserva 2010 vintage has received another Gold Medal during the 23rd edition of Concours Mondial de Bruxelles. Only a few days prior, 16000 wines were being judged at this year’s edition of the prestigious Decanter World Wine Awards – the world’s largest wine competition. A judging panel of 244 top wine experts tasted and scored wines from all over the world. Both Montecillo Gran Reserva 2008 and Montecillo Gran Reserva Selección Especila 2001 received a Gold Medal after obtaining 95 and 97 points (out of 100) accordingly. The official results will be announced on Decanter.com on June 6th.
